To remove the cowl plastic screws, just use a thin flathead screwdriver to lever the screw part of the clip out of the bottom part. Even if they are threaded they will still come out. Don't worry about breaking these, they are still available new and quite cheap. Once you got the plastic screw out, you can remove the lower clip part easily.
